The St. Elizabeth Family Medicine Center is one of 23 healthcare organizations that has been awarded a grant from the New York State Department of Health (DOH) to improve medical outcomes of people living with HIV disease. The grant, which totals $214,868, is to provide HIV primary care and prevention services at the Family Medicine Center through its Specialty Clinic.
“The AIDS epidemic is changing,” said State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D. “HIV infection is a chronic disease and needs to be treated that way by the medical community and the patients themselves. We need to expand routine testing as part of primary care, engage patients in their own care and treatment, help them adhere to complex antiretroviral therapies, and prevent further transmission of infection.”
“This opportunity will allow us to expand our existing services while continuing to provide quality care and education to our patients and the community,” said Regina Brown, Program Coordinator for the Infectious Disease Clinic at the Family Medicine Center.
